Afternoon Tea in Fitz's Brasserie at Kimpton Fitzroy London

Set within the architectural drama of Russell Square, the Kimpton Fitzroy London offers Afternoon Tea in a setting shaped by late-Victorian grandeur and contemporary refinement. The hotel’s striking terracotta façade and historic interiors provide an atmospheric backdrop for a quietly composed tea experience in Fitz’s Brasserie: one that leans toward tradition with subtle modern accents.

The dining space carries the hotel’s heritage influence without tipping into formality; velvet textures, detailed design elements and soft lighting create a mood suited to unhurried conversation. This is an Afternoon Tea designed more for calm indulgence than theatrical flourish.

The first course presents a quartet of finger sandwiches, neatly prepared and rooted in the classics, each served on its own bread for contrast of texture and tone. Scottish Smoked Salmon on brown bread introduces a whisper of modernity through yuzu and crème fraîche, adding light citrus lift to a well-loved staple. The Truffled Burford Brown Egg on wheatmeal bread is the most decadent of the collection, with the truffle bringing depth to a familiar British favourite. English Cucumber with chive cream cheese on white bread remains reassuringly classic and refreshing.

Warm scones arrive next laying wrapped on a three tiered stand below the patisserie. Plain scones and two enriched with apricot, cranberry and golden raisin are accompanied by Cornish clotted cream, strawberry preserve and a seasonal lemon curd. The warmth on delivery enhances the experience, and the lemon curd provides a bright counterpoint to the traditional cream and jam. The fruit scone has a gentle sweetness, while the plain variety offers the simplicity purists might prefer.

The concluding sweet course leans into patisserie craftsmanship, with four miniature creations. A Dark Chocolate & Crème Brûlée Truffle delivers a smooth, rich mouthful with a familiar caramelised note.
The Red Velvet Petit Gâteau is visually poised, combining cream cheese and vanilla with polished presentation.
The Pistachio & Raspberry Opera Cake stands as the most sophisticated piece, weaving together pistachio, raspberry and passion fruit in thin layers. The Seasonal Berry Tart consists of a pastry shell, fruit confit and almond frangipane, providing a lighter note to close.

Afternoon Tea at the Kimpton Fitzroy London delivers a refined, classically structured experience within an evocative Bloomsbury setting. The offering feels curated rather than extravagant - a thoughtful progression through traditional tea elements, elevated with contemporary touches that remain measured rather than bold. Ideal for those seeking a serene and unhurried afternoon enhanced by heritage surroundings, it is an experience that values classic aspects of an Afternoon Tea.
